What in the ledger has value

Can I sell my general ledger data? What sells and what stays

Updated

Buyers of company data describe the ledger as the record of how money moves through a business. That record sells; the names and pay figures inside it do not.

What buyers name

Troveo names ledgers, invoices and contracts, Polyshares lists accounting and ERP exports among the records it pays for, and License Your Data asks how a bookkeeper closes the month.

What to take out first

Payroll entries, employees' bank details and customers' personal details are not what a lab pays for, and under UK GDPR article 6 any disclosure of them needs a lawful basis. Strip them, or have them de-identified, before a sample leaves the company.

Years matter more than size

A long, consistent ledger with its closes and corrections shows judgement over time, which is what a buyer is training on. Tell us how many years your systems hold in the form.

Which books has your company kept, and where?
